Chess Club

At Hickey, we want the Chess Club to be open to all participants K-5th grade. Kids learn the game of chess through play with their peers. They have fun learning new moves and showing off their skills. No experience is required, just a positive attitude.

The club meets after school twice a month from 2:45-3:45pm. For the 2019-20 school year there is a one-time fee to improve chess club. Included in the price is a chess set for your student and a chess club t-shirt. If additional students from a family join, an additional $10 will be needed to cover the cost of the t-shirt.

Please note: Chess Club is only as successful as we parents make it. Chess Club is run by the PTA, not the school. Parent volunteers are vital to making this club a possibility. There is a requirement of one adult per 10 children attending. If that volunteer requirement is not met before each meeting, there is a possibility chess club could be cancelled for that session. No knowledge of chess is required to volunteer. Parents are needed to help arrange games and monitor the children. A Volunteer Sign Up will begin soon. Please remember, you must be cleared to volunteer through Plano ISD's volunteer policy and have a background check run.
