WATCH D.O.G.S. is a one-of-a-kind, school-based father involvement program that works to support education and safety.
Who are WatchD.O.G.S.? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or other administrator.
As a program of the National Center for Fathering, there are more than 5,348 registered schools in 47 states that participate in the WATCH D.O.G.S. program, in addition to participation in China, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Barbados.
Last school year almost 400,000 men in more than 4,700 WATCH D.O.G.S. schools across 47 states volunteered at least one full day in their child’s schools through this amazing program.
At Hickey, many of our WatchD.O.G.S. come on their child's birthday to volunteer. Volunteering includes helping with morning carpool, the announcements, lunch duties, aiding teachers in the classroom, helping in the library and during specials time (Art, Music, PE). The Hickey PTA provides each WatchD.O.G. with a t-shirt so students notice them throughout the school. School staff will take a picture of WatchD.O.G.S. with their child(ren) to display on the bulletin board as well as in the yearbook. The PTA also has an open lunch account for our WatchD.O.G.S. so you can eat lunch with your child as our thanks for coming to the school as a positive role model for the day.
